Dr. Rene Brewer

I have been a practicing veterinarian in the Fresno area for over 20 years, after working the prior 10 years in private practice Auburn and Davis. Like many health professionals in general practice, I was finding more limitations with conventional medicine. There always seem to be patients that I wish I could do more for - especially for chronic illness and pain control. At the same time, on a personal level, I developed debilitating migraines. In my case, all the testing and pills offered little to no relief - so I finally tried acupuncture. And wonder of wonders, they gradually diminished and I had to know more. I reinvested in my medical education in order to learn a more holistic wellness way of healing. I started with the International Veterinary Acupuncture course which combines the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine with the scientific background of how acupuncture affects our bodies. I became certified in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2000. I have enjoyed exploring and studying Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and continued my training with the Chi Institute in Florida. I have completed courses in Chinese Herbal Medicine, classical points and advanced acupuncture, Chinese Food therapy and Tui-Na (Medical Massage). I am a member of IVAS and also the American Holisiic Veterinary Medical Association. The AHVMA has introduced me to many other modalities, from Aromatherapy to Frequency Specific Microcurrent Therapy to Cold Laser Therapy.

When the strict conventional approach doesn’t either work, in’t wanted, or isn’t enough for a pet, a wellness-based, holistic healing approach can often help. We aim not only to offer integrative healing modalities for dogs and cats, but also, in the process, to offer an integrative understanding of pet health for people in search of it. We guide you and your pet along your own healing path in a way that is knowledgeable, compassionate and empowering.

Antoinette, Veterinary Assistant

Hi there! I earned my Degree in Animal Science in 1999. I entered the Veterinary world to explore my passion for animal nursing. I have been passionate about nursing and animals since I was a little girl growing up on the ranch with my grandparents.

I am mama to my beautiful daughter Heather, my handsome son Luke and grandma {aka boom boom} to my grandson Greyson and granddaughter Harper Lynn.

I have worked with Dr. Brewer for nearly 20 years. She is truly one of the most caring vets you could ever work with. I have worked with most of our amazing staff for nearly 20 years as well. We are not just co-workers; we are extended family.

In addition to my primary job functions, Dr. Brewer has recognized me as a kitty neonate specialist. No formal title was ever given, but I wear the title proudly! We all have that one skill that brings us so much joy and happiness and mine certainly is taking care of any neonate animal. If I could bottle feed for a living, I would certainly do so. From Alpaca Crias, to orphaned Opossum babies. My heart overflows taking care of them.

I have recently moved even further away from Madera, to Three Rivers, with my wonderful fiancé. We love spending time at home with our mini horses, mini donkeys, chickens, dogs, cats, birds and all of the beautiful wildlife that comes to visit us on a daily basis.

Destiny, Veterinary Assistant

Growing up, my Mom always knew I would go into the veterinary field. I attended Central Coast College in my hometown of Salinas to become a veterinary assistant. Shortly after finishing school I got my first job at a veterinary hospital in Carmel Valley. My goal is to further my education so I a can become a Registered Veterinary Technician.

I have two terriers at home, Batman and Robin, and a cat named Chesire. My family is very close and we’re huge Disney fans. In fact, Disneyland is my second home. Otherwise in my free time I love to read, cook and go camping and hiking.

Bark! Hello! My name is Sugar Plum. You may see me running around the hospital from time to time. Most of the time I’m in the back of the hospital making sure everyone is working hard. When I’m not checking up on the staff you may find me chasing my tennis ball around the treatment room. On my days off I love to spend time with my Mom and go on hiking adventures.

Meow! My name is Kitone. Dr. Brewer found me on the side of the highway in pretty bad shape. She brought me in and helped me get healthy. Now I get to live and work at the hospital. I hide out in the back of the hospital so you may not get to see me when you’re here. The staff let me help out by keeping their files organized and typing notes on the computer. I even get paid in treats! When I’m not working I love chasing my toys around the treatment area or take naps in one of my many beds.
